In detail

Emergency Service, the deeper look

Emergency auto glass service is the priority dispatch of a mobile glass technician to a vehicle with severely compromised glass, shattered side windows, broken rear windshields, smashed windshields after a collision or break-in, to secure the vehicle and restore drivability as fast as possible, usually the same day.

What we count as an emergency

Three scenarios always qualify for priority dispatch:

1. Recent break-in or vandalism. A smashed side window leaves your interior exposed to weather, theft of remaining belongings, and a vehicle that isn’t safely lockable. We come fast.

2. Collision damage to a windshield or rear window that’s still blocking visibility. A spider-cracked windshield that’s blurring the driver’s view, or a rear window that’s blocking the rear-view mirror, is a safety issue, not a scheduling preference.

3. Driving-related severe damage that has the vehicle off-road. A cracked windshield that’s grown to span the full glass overnight, or any glass that’s lost structural integrity to the point the vehicle shouldn’t be driven at highway speed, gets priority.

For routine chip repairs and non-urgent replacements, see chip repair and windshield replacement instead, same mobile model, scheduled normally.

Response time and what to expect

We dispatch within hours for emergency calls placed during business hours. Same-day completion depends on glass availability, for common vehicles (Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, Subaru, Hyundai, Kia) we usually have the glass on the van or in the warehouse and the job is done same-day. For less common models or specialty glass (heated wiper grids, heads-up display windshields, acoustic-laminate luxury vehicles), the glass may need to be sourced from a distributor, which can add a day. Either way, the first step is to secure the vehicle, we come out fast even when the full replacement has to wait a day for parts.

Securing the vehicle

If the glass can’t be replaced the same day, we secure the vehicle with a temporary clear vinyl cover taped to the frame. The cover keeps weather and additional debris out of the interior, blocks visibility for opportunistic break-ins, and lets you drive the vehicle slowly to a secure parking spot if needed. It’s not a long-term solution, temporary covers are good for 24-72 hours, but it bridges the gap between the emergency and the proper replacement.

After a break-in: what to do before we arrive

Three things help the insurance claim and our dispatch:

  • Take photos of the damage from outside and inside the vehicle before any glass is cleaned up. Insurance claims for break-ins benefit from visual documentation of the entry point and any disturbed contents.
  • Don’t try to clear the broken glass yourself. Tempered glass shards in seat fabric, door cavities, and under floor mats are hard to get fully out without the right vacuum. The cleanup is part of what we do.
  • Don’t leave the vehicle unlocked. Even a partially-broken window can usually still hold a lock; we’ll need to get into the vehicle when we arrive, but the goal between now and then is to make a second incident harder.

Insurance coverage for emergencies

Glass damage from break-ins, vandalism, and theft is covered by comprehensive coverage in Ontario, the same coverage that handles windshield damage from road debris. A single comprehensive claim typically does not raise your premium. Collision damage to glass is covered by collision coverage, see the comprehensive vs collision guide for the split. We handle the insurance claim filing end-to-end either way.

Priority dispatch runs across London, Middlesex County, and the immediate radius, Sarnia, Strathroy, St. Thomas, Komoka, Dorchester, Ingersoll, Lucan, Ilderton, and everywhere in between. The service-areas page has the full coverage list.
