ADAS Calibration in London, Ontario

ADAS calibration is the procedure for re-aligning a vehicle’s forward-facing safety camera to factory specification after the windshield it’s mounted to has been replaced, removed, or significantly disturbed.

What ADAS actually controls

ADAS, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, is the umbrella term for the active safety features in newer vehicles that watch the road and intervene when needed. The forward-facing camera mounted near the top of the windshield, behind the rear-view mirror, runs most of them: lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and the automatic emergency braking (AEB) that has been mandatory on new vehicles sold in Canada since 2025. None of these systems read the road accurately if the camera’s aim is off, because a fractional-millimetre tilt at the glass becomes metres of error at the distances the system is looking down the road.

Static, dynamic, and why some vehicles need both

There are three calibration methods. Static calibration uses a precision target board placed at exact distances and angles from the vehicle in a controlled, level space. We set up the board, run the diagnostic tool, and the vehicle’s computer reads the targets to re-aim the camera. Common on GM trucks, Subarus, Hyundais, Kias. Dynamic calibration is a road drive at a fixed speed on clearly marked roads while the vehicle’s computer relearns its camera in real time. Common on newer Hondas and some Toyotas. Both static and dynamic is increasingly common on newer Hondas, most Toyotas, and luxury brands. Done on-site, same visit as the replacement

The shops that calibrate in-house and the shops that send you to the dealership offer dramatically different customer experiences. We calibrate on-site. We bring the calibration target boards, the diagnostic tool, and the level surface (we set up on a flat driveway, parking lot, or shop floor, we’ll find a spot that works at your location). The calibration happens at the same visit as the windshield replacement. There’s no second trip, no dealership wait, no surprise bill.

Manufacturer requirement, not a shop upsell

This needs to be said clearly: vehicle manufacturers require ADAS calibration after a windshield replacement on equipped vehicles. It is not an add-on we invented to pad the bill. It’s part of doing the replacement correctly. A shop that quotes you a replacement without including calibration on a 2018-or-newer vehicle is either planning to skip it (dangerous), planning to send you out for it later (a half day and a possible second bill), or doesn’t know it’s required (avoid). Ask the question up front.

What insurance does (and doesn’t) cover

Calibration is treated by Ontario insurers as part of the proper windshield replacement, not a separate service. If comprehensive coverage is paying for the windshield, it’s paying for the calibration too.
